LOGIN 2026: what scammers can do with stolen Registry Centre data

At LOGIN 2026 in Vilnius, Marius Parescius presented a practical cyber security talk about stolen Registry Centre data and the risks that follow when personal and real estate information becomes usable by criminals.

The public LOGIN programme listed the talk as “Stolen Registry Centre data: what can scammers do with it?” The presentation used the working title “Cyber security in Lithuania: unimportant?” and focused on the human side of a data leak: names, addresses and property records are not just database rows, but information that can be turned into pressure, fraud and social engineering.

Main message

If cyber security in Lithuania were unimportant, society would not be talking about leaked Registry Centre data. The real danger starts after the leak, when criminals combine official-looking facts with fear, urgency and trust.

Key points from the presentation

  • Stolen real estate registry data can help scammers sound credible in calls, messages and fake verification requests.
  • Older people are especially exposed because criminals can use real names, addresses and property details to build trust.
  • The same data can interest ordinary scammers, business criminals and hostile information operations.
  • The first practical security action is a family conversation: call parents and grandparents before scammers do.
  • Businesses cannot protect data if they do not know what data they hold, where it is copied and who can access it.

Practical advice for families

  • Never approve Smart-ID or Mobile-ID actions while speaking with someone on the phone.
  • Do not install support or remote access apps suggested by callers.
  • Stop the conversation if the caller creates pressure or fear.
  • Call children or relatives back through a known phone number if something feels suspicious.
  • Agree on a family password for emergency situations.

The Kauno diena article published before LOGIN highlighted the same practical warning: after a data leak, the urgent task is to explain the risk to relatives, especially elderly family members.
